Why We Built UnityFreak
The platforms that dominate developer education and freelancing today were built for a different era. They started with good intentions, but somewhere along the way, they optimized for their own revenue at the expense of the people who create the value: you.
The Problem
Here is the reality for tech professionals in 2026:
- Course creators hand over 20-63% of their revenue to platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, and Coursera. On some, you do not even set your own price.
- Freelancers pay 10-20% service fees on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, plus deal with opaque algorithms and race-to-the-bottom pricing.
- Learners juggle subscriptions across five different platforms and still cannot find a community of peers to practice with.
- Teams use one tool for learning, another for hiring, another for project management — none of them talk to each other.
The tools exist. They are just scattered, expensive, and designed to extract value rather than create it.
What We Are Building
UnityFreak is a single platform where tech professionals can learn, build, earn, and grow:
- Learn through courses, code playgrounds, and AI-assisted tutoring
- Build portfolios, manage projects, and collaborate with teams
- Earn through freelancing with built-in escrow protection
- Grow your career with skill verification, job matching, and community
All of this with a simple, transparent fee: 10% on paid transactions. No hidden fees. No subscription required to browse. No algorithmic games.
Why 10%?
Because that is what it actually costs to run a platform well. We have done the math and published it. Every cent is accounted for: infrastructure, payment processing, support, and a margin that lets us keep building.
The other platforms charge more because they can, not because they need to.
For Creators, By Builders
We are a small team of developers who got tired of the status quo. We are building the platform we wish existed — one that treats creators as partners, not products.
If that resonates with you, join the waitlist or apply to be a founding creator. The first 50 creators get reduced fees, permanent badges, and a direct line to the team that is building this.
We cannot fix everything overnight. But we can start by being honest about what we charge and why. The rest will follow.
